How do I add a CiviCRM Profile to the Add New Contact Select Box
April 07, 2011, 01:52:33 pm
Hi all,

I am exploring using CiviCRM and the Case Module in particular as an application to manage Family Medical Leave Act occurrences. I am exploring the workflow right now and am impressed.

I have created a custom CiviCRM Profile with custom data fields, how do I get that into the Add New Contact select box that appears when I create a new case? Once it is in there I want to make it the default option.

I suspect there is an array that tells Civi which profiles to load but I do not know where to begin looking for it.

Thank you.

The "Add New Contact" dialog uses the preconfigured "New Individual" profile (for individuals). This profile contains First and Last Name and Email by default, but you can add any other fields you need to it. Just add your custom data fields as additional profile fields, and they will appear when creating new cases.

Your use case sounds quite interesting. Would be great if you can write some blog post(s) about it - both as you are "exploring", and hopefully once you have a functioning implementation. Thank you for the reply. I saw that I could do that, I had already created another custom CiviCRM Profile so I was hoping to just add it. I would think that adding fields to the New Individual profile keeps everything in order during upgrades.

We are excited about using Civi for this use. I would be glad to post some thoughts on the exploration phase of the project and implementation. I will be sure to contribute any code I need to develop back to the community. What is so impressive about Civi, is that I think almost everything we need is built in. It is just determining how to leverage the existing functions that is the challenge right now as I learn about this great software product.
