Drupal 7 + CiviCRM 4.0 beta 3 fresh install - file permissions error
April 09, 2011, 08:01:27 pm
I have just installed Drupal 7 (a fresh install) and received an error on installation. I have a lot of experience working with Drupal 6 so quite sure it is a CiviCRM /hosting error

When following the installation directions I have confirmed that I meet the requirements for proceeding, but when typing the install address including 'index.php' I receive the following error on a plain white screen

"A file permissions error has occurred. Please check the permissions on the script and the directory it is in and try again."

Making sure the permissions for the /install folder are set to 777 (Read/Write/Execute), in addition to the index.php still hasn't helped. I have even set the entire /civicrm folder and all sub-folders and files to 777 settings just to test if it would work, but with no success - still receiving the same error message.

I am using Shared hosting with Heart Internet, could this be the problem?

Any advice much appreciated as I need to have this ready as soon as possible :)

777 may fail on some hosts actually. This sounds like an Apache issue and so you should ask your host--perhaps it's a file ownership issue. Anyhow your host should know.

Checked hosting support database as I should have originally and it says 777 is blocked, which is the default so it needed changing. my cPanel comes with 'Check File Permissions' feature in which I found the following 2 files and changed them to the recommended settings

Perfect I changed the file civicrm/install/index.php from 666 > 755
and the directory civicrm/install 777 >

And now the installation screen has come up ! Thanks a lot, good luck everyone else you know what to do :)
