Hi,

I'm new to Civicrm and I'm just starting to play with the front end after having imported about 4,000 contacts.

I keep running into the same issue when navigating around and wondered if I've missed an icon or right click or something:

I do a search and find a list of contacts I then want to view or edit some of the contacts one by one but I can't seem to find out where to open the contact in a new tab?

Seems as though the only thing to do is open in the current tab but this means I lose the search results and can't go and open another one without having to go through the same search process again.

Is it me?

Tip: on any link, if you click with the middle button (or wheel) on the link, it opens in a new tab under linux or windows.

On mac, ctrl+click and select open in a new tab.

P.S. Works on any site, not only civicrm, rejoice, you will soon have 100th of tabs open all the time ;)

There's an open issue to improve the context menu which you currently get when you right-click on a contact row in search results so that you can right-click on the desired "action" in pop-up list. However, the person working on it hit some issues and the work is currently on hold.  For now Xavier's tip is your best bet.

Note that in most cases you should be able to return to your search results from the contact screen using the Search Results breadcrumb near the top of the screen.

Middle button click is a new one on me and very smart :-)

I missed the breadcrumbs so that is a good idea too!

The breadcrumbs didn't seem to take me back to the same place?

Any progress on this issue?

Nope :-( I think the person who was looking at it "gave up". If you have jScript / jQuery skills and can investigate that would be great.
