Custom data fields not showing up on New Individual page
January 06, 2008, 05:24:05 pm
I have three sets of custom data fields set up however there doesn't seem to be a custom data section on the New Individual page. The custom fields can be accessed when editing or searching for contacts, and I also had custom fields displaying on the New Individual page on a previous test installation.

AFAIK, when custom data fields are created they automatically show up on this page, however would there be an obvious reason for this situation such as a setting I've missed (i.e. telling CiviCRM to display them on New Individual)?

I'm running the most recent version of CiviCRM and Drupal, however if more details are needed about the installation, please let me know. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi seaweasel - there are a couple of things to check:

(1) In Administer CiviCRM / Custom Data - is your group title present?

(2) In the settings for your custom data group
- is the setting inline or tab - will effect where you see the custom data group
- is "Collapse this group on initial display" checked - OK if it is but have to expand the + to see the group if it is.
- Is this Custom Data Group active?

I know that these are basic, but a place to start.

Thanks Dave, I had them set to tab instead of inline.

Glad you found the problem - CiviCRM does give us lots of options.  Are you going to do stand-alone forms or try to incorporate some of your custom fields in reports?

I'm planning on one standalone form to create contacts with a Drupal page on the public website. It hasn't been built yet but I was planning on the contacts created with it being tagged automatically so that the database admins can act on the submissions.

I haven't looked into reports yet, although it's something my client would be interested in. I was thinking that the basic stats they need can be obtained by searches, e.g. how many female contacts there are in a certain postcode, however any information on more advanced reports you can point me to would be appreciated.

Stand-Alone Forms

As soon as you get into testing this concept, please let me know. You don't have to have all of your fields worked out to test the concept.  The forms do work for new contacts, but I have weird things happen if I'm logged in and use the form - maybe I'm just not thinking of things the right way:

I think subscriptions can be managed from forms, but haven't done this yet other than subscribe and unsubscribe from emails.

Not sure about ability for contacts to update some of their own contact information other than subscriptions.   I'm interested in your and others perspective on this.

Custom Field Reporting

You can do most of what you want from searches and print or export, but just a little tweaking of the print reports would really help us even if they have to be hard coded changes.
