Which payment processors does auto-renewal memberships work with?

Documentation states that "auto-renew memberships" work with certain payment processors.  And which ones might these be?

paypal pro, auth.net and paypal standard. basically processors that support recurring contributions in civicrm today

if the google checkout recurring hits the goal, i suspect that will also be added to the above list pretty easily :)

Great, I am trying it out for the first time with Paypal Pro + Recurring.

I notice there isn't much documentation about this new feature.  I will create some documentation if I can get a few more details about how it works.

Regarding auto-renewal failure
1. If the auto-renewal is attempted but the payment fails (changed or expired credit card) then what notification (if any) is sent to the CiviCRM administrator?  For instance: "We tried to renew Joe Smith's membership but it was declined"....

2. Ditto, but what notification does the membership holder get upon fail?  I'm not talking about the reminder, but the failure.

3. Is an activity recorded in CiviCRM such as a pending or cancelled contribution for the renewal failure?

also, regarding Paypal
For this feature with Paypal Pro to work, does a user need to get the "recurring" add-on feature for Paypal Pro?

thanks let me know and I can write up some docs

I haven't worked with PayPal Pro Recurring - but I'm pretty sure it requires the 'recurring' add on feature to use it. If you want to confirm w/ them - the API transaction type to create a recurring payment is:

 "recurring_payment_profile_created"

Failures on recurring payment transactions (whether regular recurring contributions or auto-renew memberships) are logged to the CiviCRM*.log file and a "Failed" contribution is created. We do not send a notice as far as I can tell (and Lobo confirmed from his recollection). However we're pretty sure that PayPal sends notifications to both the contributor and the admin for the PayPal account. Not sure about activity being recorded.

If you can confirm and document - that would be most helpful.

Thank you based on my experiences I have elaborated on the Recurring process and attempted to contrast the different behaviors of Standard and Pro.

Please review and make corrections. I seldom use Standard, and you seldom use Pro, so it would be helpful if we could double-check each other here.

thanks

Stuart - your doc matches my understanding, although frankly we don't have any live experience using PayPal Std subscriptions. I didn't see any doc on failure-handling (might have missed it). If you've learned anything about that it would be useful to add a tip or info block on it.

If using Authorize.net for recurring payments, you need to log into your Authorize.net account and configure the "Silent Post URL" if you want to get notification about payments in CiviCRM.
