can civiCRM have multiple membership forms, publish one member type?

Hello!
This is another "can civiCRM do this" question before I start getting my hands "dirty" and installing everything.  Here's what our organization needs:

Online registration and payment for multiple membership levels
        * Each membership type needs a different set of registration questions (can there be more than one registration form?)
        * Our 5th level of membership is a public list that we'd like to be able to display, filter and search on the website.

That's it!  Can I do it with civiCRM?
Thanks for your help!! I'm excited to get started...

Yes.

You'll create a separate registration from (contribution form in CiviCRM parlance) for each membership type. So you'll create two things: a profile and a membership type and then put them together in a contribution page. You'll do that 5 times.

The workflow assumes that one person does not have multiple memberships.

To display the 5th level on the website, you multiple options. I like creating a smart group of all the members, then creating a profile that displays only that smart group and using it as a listings page.

Read the docs, particularly about profiles, listings and memberships. It will take a little time to ramp up, but should work fine for you.
