Include Organization Profile on Events?
April 18, 2011, 04:46:53 pm
Hi gang,

Couldn't seem to find anything on this in the forums -- apologies if it's already been answered a thousand times.

I would like to have a profile on an event that allows a user to set up a new organization. When I try to select my org profile from the 'Include Profile' it doesn't appear. I'm gathering that's because you can only use individual or contact profiles?

Thanks for any help.
Vanessa

Hi Vanessa - i think the core issue is that Orgs can't turn up to an event 'in person' so they can't be registered. So not sure of your requirements here but if it is something along the lines of needing to have the Org filled in for a Person, you can put in the Individuals 'current employer' (?) field so they can specify which Org they are related to - but suspect that isn't near enough what you are wanting.
And yes you can 'donate' on behalf of an org but that is a separate process that I don't think applies at all to Events.

Hi Pete,

Well here's the story in a nutshell.

A client has an event that has teams. They want to track the association between the team and the team members--obviously understandable.

They were attempting to do this by making the team an organization contact record--which would be cool if when a user registers they could select the team name from a contact reference field. I created a version of the 'new organization' profile that included an autocomplete organization field - i.e., they could either select an already existing org contact or create a new one (ultimately would be cool if they could create a 'team member is' / 'team member of' relationship too. Found this module: http://drupal.org/node/819840, but can't do an elaborate solution at this time--has to do with the fact that we're a service and adding modules get tricky).

So I've started looking into using tags - which I can expose through a profile. I was hoping that if I used a tag set, a user could create a 'team member' tag on the fly. Then the client could create smart groups around the team tags. But it doesn't look like I can expose the tag set to the end user....hurrumph!

I guess I can go back to a simple custom data field. Any other ideas?

Thanks much!
Vanessa
