Upgrade worked - anonymous Drupal users see dashboard page
April 21, 2011, 05:44:02 pm
We upgraded from 2.2.7 to 3.3.x.  Upgrade worked.  But now our anonymous Drupal users can land on the /civicrm path and they see the black admin menu (blank) and the CiviCRM dashboard.  We don't want this.  We want them to not be able to land on that page.  We do need them to be able to access some CiviCRM pages however like registering for events etc.

Is there a method for disabling access to just the main /civicrm dashboard page?

Additionally how can we just hide the black admin menu for anonymous users but still give them the ability to view CiviCRM pages?  Seems like we should be able to hide that menu for anon users.

Looks like you have given "access CiviCRM" permission to anonymous user. Please check and fix your drupal permissions for anonymous role.

Hi Trevor,

Kurund's right: both the main menu bar and the civiCRM dashboard, along with other things, are provided by the "access CiviCRM" permission. Oher permissions provide access to specific features; for example, look at "view event info" and "register for events" to let users register for events.

In case you haven't seen it, here's a link to a Wiki page that explains all the Drupal permissions CiviCRM provides:
Default Permissions and Roles in Drupal

Based on Kurund's comment I'm not sure if this statement from the above Wiki page is still true:
"Regardless of permissions assigned, the Anonymous role (visitors who are NOT logged in) is not permitted access to the "back-office" functions of CiviCRM. This includes the CiviCRM Home Page dashboard and any of the functions accessed via the standard CiviCRM menus (Find Contacts, Manage Groups, Import, Administer CiviCRM) as well as the built-in Shortcuts block."

Awesome.  We'll disable that permission and see if it works.

Yeah, check it out, and please let us know what you find. If it seems that assigning that permission to Anonymous really gives them all that access, we may want to reconsider the text of that Wiki page.

Thanks,
TM
