In CiviCRM 3.3.x going to register a new participant here:

civicrm/participant/add&reset=1&action=add&context=standalone

As soon as I start typing into the Select Contact autocomplete field, nothing happens.  Civi hangs for about 10 sec or more before showing the autocomplete drop down of name results in black under the field box.  Why is this so slow?  Any suggestions?

The Select Contact field should be quicker than this - the names should appear immediately in the drop down once you start typing no?
