Upgrade to 3.4.0 fails with error in Smarty.php

Hi,
This is a Drupal 6 installation, currently on 3.0.2.
I am working on upgrading civicrm to 3.4.0.
When running the upgrade script (/civicrm/upgrade?reset=1) I get the following result:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method stdClass::get() in /path-to-drupal/sites/all/modules/civicrm/CRM/Core/Smarty.php on line 120

The drupal files directory is writable.
Can't find any hint in any error logs.
Tried also to upgrade to version 3.3.6 with the same result, which leads me to believe there is some fundamental issue.

Appreciate any pointers.

wanted to add, the only reference to a similar situation I could find was this:

but in my case the error persists.

One thing to try is to replace your CiviCRM core files -- perhaps one is missing...

Hi,
All the files are in place - extracted this from the original tar multiple times.

Is there anyone who has experienced this and found a solution?

I believe Donald Lobo of CiviCRM has fixed this now.   See the patch in CiviCRM issue CRM-8120.  I'd give the link, but these forums apparently don't allow external links -- it's "issues.civicrm.org SLASH jira SLASH browse SLASH CRM-8120".

Hi,
I wanted to close the loop on this. The problem in my instance was:
The site had been migrated from another server and environment. As a result the paths defined under Global Settings > Directories were not valid. This caused the issue descibed above.
