Extension support for CiviCase types?
April 27, 2011, 12:34:07 am
What would be involved in getting the existing CiviExtensions mechanism to support CiviCase configurations as another type of extension.   Currently if a non-profit/consultant creates a useful CiviCase type and the needed XML configuration, there is no good way to share this with other CiviCRM installations.

Was thinking a CiviCase extension package would need to include the following:
1) The XML file describing the new CiviCase type
2) a setup script ( or new XML file) that would create the needed activity types and relationship types that are used in the XML file in part 1.

Hi,

Not solving 100% but apis have already function to

- create relationship
- create activitytype
- create case status (via optionGroup)
- create case types

you can already simply create a script that calls all apis (or use the magic php/bin/import), the last missing bit it to copy the xml file, zip, run...

but agree would be nice to have that from extensions. the extension manager itself could use the api to create the relationship/type/activity type...

Not sure if migration / import falls under extensions (they potentially can), but i think we do need a much better system than what we currently have to migrate data in a consistent manner from one system to the other

Sarah: wanna play the lead on this and help build and package something for case. Once that is done we can figure out how to plug it into the extension system and then think about other objects
