CIVICRM4: Error building Admin Menus
April 27, 2011, 06:14:59 am
In Joomla 1.6, CIVICRM 4 installation gives error
        Error building Admin Menus
        Installing component was successful.

No item menu is displayed for CiviCRM, but if I go directly to the admin page, it seems to work.
Thank you.

Hmmm, now we have two posts with the same issue. Can you post your PHP version and also let us know if your Joomla is fresh or was upgraded?

Thanks.

This may be the problem. On the about CiviCRM page http://civicrm.org/aboutcivicrm it says CiviCRM requires:

Quote
MySQL 5.1.x+ with InnoDB support

Can you upgrade and then retry?

I can confirm this problem. I've installed CiviCRM 4.0.1 into a Joomla 1.6.3 installation running on MySQL v 5.1.53 and had the same problem: no menus are created in the Administrator panel Components menu. I don't think it's a MySQL issue. I think it might be an issue with CiviCRM's use of the Joomla API.

I have also found a workaround, which may shed light on the problem.

CiviCRM is being added as an administrator menu to the jos_menu table in Joomla, however it's missing it's component_id number. Looking this number up from the jos_extensions table and adding the missing value will cause the menu to display under Components as it should.

I got the same problem with a fresh install of J1.6.3 and CiviCRM 4.0.1 on localhost using WAMP server running on a Windows Vista.
PHP 5.2.8, MySQL 5.1.30.
Thanks to bizzynate's workaround, I could fanally manage to get the CiviCRM menu.

Here is what I did :
Using PHPMyAdmin, I browsed my joomla site database.
1. Get the extension_id of civicrm in the jos_extensions table (in my case it was 10002)
2. Go in the jos_menu table and look for the comcivicrmmenu alias.
3. Update this record by putting the correct value in the component_id field (in my case the correct value was 10002).

That's all.

I hope developpers will quickly find what was wrong in the installation process.
Ben

Was this a clean install or did u get an error the first time (typically due to permissions) and then try the install again?

This has happened to me due to the latter multiple times. The J! 1.6 installer aborts the install process due does not clean up the menu entry and hence the second install cannot create the menu item.

I dont now a workaround for this right now. Would be great if someone more familiar with joomla can take a look and figure out a potential solution

This did not work for me. The correct component_id number was already there.

I'd like to report that the same happened to me, using CiviCRM 4.0.5 and Joomla! 1.7.

The work around did a great job. The id was "0" to the component in the _menu table.

Maybe it's because the tables got random names in this version of Joomla...
