Link Drupal account with CiviCRM account - how?
January 11, 2008, 05:44:32 pm
I've got an established Drupal website for a sporting club with many existing members. I'm looking into adding CiviCRM so that we can track more details about our members (using CiviMember) and process online registrations (using CiviContribute). So far this has been going pretty well. I've installed CiviCRM, enabled modules, added membership types, configured contribution pages and linked them with our Paypal A/C.

Where I'm struggling is linking our existing Drupal accounts to new CiviCRM accounts. Ideally, I want to be able to say to our existing members, login into your Drupal account, click on a link (for example), which will take you into CiviMember (somehow) where an CiviCRM account is created for them and linked back to their Drupal account (both hopefully automatically). The member would then enter more info about themselves. Once this is done, they can then register online for the coming sporting season.

From what I've read this seems to be possible, but I can't figure out how to do it. Is it possible? Is this the appropriate way to the link Drupal and CiviCRM? How should I go about this? Thanks.

Once CiviCRM is enabled in a Drupal site, a "linked" CiviCRM contact will be created when an existing user logs in AS WELL AS when someone creates a new user record. You can also automatically create CiviCRM contacts for all existing Drupal users via the "Synchronize Users to Contacts" feature:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Synchronize+Users-to-Contacts

(the doc above explains the user <-> contact connection a bit more too).

Secondly, you can use CiviCRM Profiles to add selected CRM fields to Drupal's user registration and My Account functions. You can review the doc on Profiles here:
