US State abbreviation problem on import
May 01, 2011, 05:58:40 pm
I've done a test import of contacts from our organization's previous database, and everything imported correctly except for Michigan! The imported contacts that were from Michigan (using the US state abbreviation "MI") showed up as being from Minskaja voblasc', Belarus when I list all of the contacts.

I think it's related to the fact that I checked "Lookup mapping info during import?" when I imported, and I didn't have the Country field filled in. So, I tried it again with "United States" as the country, and "MI" as the state for those contacts. Now it has them listed as from the United States, but still in the state of "Minskaja voblasc'".

When I view a Michigan contact's summary, it shows the work address correctly, and the map has them located in the correct place. But when I just do a search for contacts with no filters, and it lists all of the contacts in our civicrm database, the Michigan people have "Minskaja voblasc'" in the State column.

This places me smack dab in the middle of the state of confusion! Can anyone help? I'm guessing that I can paste "Michigan" into the State field of the spreadsheet for our Michigan contacts when I import our full database, but I'd love to get to the root of the problem.

Thanks. I'm using 3.3.6. I haven't upgraded to 3.4 yet. But I think it was the most recent until 3.4 came out. Right?

Is that the long term fix?

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood what you said in your first post about the demo site. I thought you meant that it does the same thing in the demo site.

You are correct (of course)! I has been fixed in 3.4. See the "Michigan-test" tag. It shows up as "Michigan" even in the search results list.

Thanks! I'll upgrade to 3.4.
