Profile not accessible for some users some of the time
May 02, 2011, 04:59:48 am
I'm using a profile to allow logged-in users to search for contacts witin a certain distance of a city/state or zip code.  For some people it seems to be working, but others receive the following error:

Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.
The requested Profile (gid=3) is disabled OR it is not configured to be used for 'Profile' listings in its Settings OR there is no Profile with that ID OR you do not have permission to access this profile. Please contact the site administrator if you need assistance.

When I log in as the people for whom it's not working, the profile works as expected.

Any idea why this might be happening in this manner?

This sure sounds like a permissions issue - some folks are logging in w/ a Drupal role that doesn't have the profile listings permission. (Of course if you really can login w/ that same user login and access the profile - that would shoot that theory).

One other possibility is folks accessing the profile w/ different URLs which is then messing w/ their authentication status (since the login cookie is url specific). Do folks possibly use alternative URLs (e.g. http://mysite.org and http://www.mysite.org) ?

Dave, you're a genius.  That was totally it.  I had always used unisigep.com (without the www).  When I went to www.unisigep.com, and logged in, everything worked fine until I ran the search.  When I ran the search, www was removed from the URL and I got the error.

Is there a way to normalize the URL when you first arrive at the site, i.e. remove the "www" if the user typed it into the URL?  That way this error could be avoided.  Or, if there's another way to normalize it that's good too.

Thanks for your help!

You can use a redirect in your apache configuration. There's several posts on this forum about that.
