Import only loading 2 blocks of 16 records each, not the whole 285

FYI, I've got a second post dealing with Mismatched Contact ID's for the same import (which loads successfully anyway).

I am trying to import a CSV file using Import Contacts. It's set for No Duplicate Checking, although there are no duplicates in this file.  I'm using First and Last Names, External ID and Email, along with standard address fields.  The External ID is a lower case concatenation of First and Last names with spaces removed, and it's never blank.

The import process at "Preview (step 3 of 4)" show no errors whatsoever, but shows Total Rows and Total Valid Rows both as 32.  However, there are 285 records in this csv file.

One odd thing is that it when I go ahead and do the load, it loads the first 16 records, ships the next 80, then loads another 16 (records 97-112), and skips the rest of the file.

I've examined the data around these two groups of 16 records and there is nothing unusual about it to indicate why the load process misbehaved.

Does anyone have *ANY* idea what might cause this?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

Oh yeah, we are running:
Joomla 1.5.23
CiviCRM 3.3.5

I think I solved my problems.  It seems to have had something to do with duplicate records, or duplicate key fields.  When they were weeded out, the problems went away.  I think my mistake may have been selecting "No Duplicate Checking" instead of "Skip" for Duplicate Contacts.  I'm not sure what I was thinking, but I was under the understanding that there was no duplication in the input file.

So, problem solved.

I just ran into the same thing and, although this is an "old" post, I thought I may as well reply, in case somebody comes across the same problem. In my case just now, I was trying to import 675 records and the system reported only 15, with no errors. This is exporting from Excel.

First thing I came across was badly-translated formatting of an accent in José on line 16. So it's a good idea to check for special characters that may get mangled in the export.

I still had problems with the import, though, until I remembered that Civi often has difficulty with Excel .csv files. Exporting to FM Pro and using the .csv export from FM Pro seems to work reliably; I'd suggest that those with similar problems try exporting from another program if they run into similar problems.

Hope this helps!
