Page display issues on certain monitors
January 13, 2008, 07:58:12 pm
In general the default CiviCRM screens display, however, we have found that on some monitors things do not display properly.  On monitors of 800 x 600 the entire screen can not be viewed and there are situations where there are not available scroll bars.  On my monitor which is 1024 x 768 part of the search box is cut off and there is not a scroll bar.

Strangely on some of the larger LCD monitors there seems to be an issue displaying all the input fields.

Tonight one user could not get the civimail html box content to display reused content.

Here is a report from an other user that has tried 3 PCs.  I'm wondering if there is a more forgiving theme that we should be using?

====
Below is report from one of our users - about half seem to experience display issues:
====
.... will try to explain all the problems I'm having:

1.  My Desktop is Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2 with a 19" LCD Monitor and internet explorer 6:

The screen format is not correct in the edit view.   e.g. the precinct box is missing on my contact record, and the precinct code 6; which I entered earlier on a laptop, shows up in the House District field. Also contributions and membership tabs at top don't show up.

The advanced search shows none of the blue fields. e.g. the screen stops after Contact Types.

2.  I tried another desktop in our house which is Windows 98, 2nd edition with standard smaller monitor and internet explorer 6.

On this one the edit view looks correct and contribution/membership tabs show up, but the advanced search screen only shows the 1st blue address field with nothing below. Also if you click on this field it doesn't expand.

3. The laptop I was using the other day is Windows XP, Professional, version 2002, service pack 2 with internet explorer 7.  It seems to be bringing things in correctly. BUT, I don't want to have to use the laptop.  In fact with all the back and forth I think I may have even screwed up the laptop.

Remember how I mentioned that we have a house rule not to share computers or checkbooks?  Well, now you know why.  I don't have the tech background to be comfortable with all the options and settings on pc's.

Can you figure out what is going on here?  I sure need some help getting this resolved.

Thanks, Julie

Are others experiencing issues with users displaying CiviCRM pages?

We don't have the resources to test / support the wide variety of operating system version / browser version combinations out there. In general, we try to test on the latest version of Firefox (2), IE (7) and Safari (3) - and rely on the community to help diagnose and submit fixes if there are problems in other "latest" browsers.

Can your users upgrade IE to the current release?

Drupal CiviCRM

I haven't identified a pattern yet. I am using the latest Firefox and I can function, just noticed that part of the search box is cut off and no available scroll bar.  I think everyone is using XP, I.E. version 6 or Firefox 2 (I'll double check, one person may have tried to slip an AOL in on me), except for one person on a MAC which seems to work fine.

Just curious if others were running into problems.  I'm also going to have everyone test on the demo system as a benchmark.  Also, if there was a different theme that might make a difference, we'd try that.

In one case the person has 3 pcs - works fine on one, but issues on the other 2.

In some cases we can visit the PC to observe in case something else is really going on.

I'll start a grid, but many screen issues don't seem to be a version issue - at least not old vs new ... maybe resolution ... not sure.

I've manage to duplicate one of the issues on my PC.
In advanced search, with FireFox 2 all the collapsed rows with the dark blue background appear as they should (I think).

However, in I.E. 2 - only the first Address collapsed box appears.

I bet a lot of the people on this forum are running FireFox or I.E. 7 and not I.E. 6

Just personally checked on a 2nd PC running XP and I.E. 6 - same exact issue with the advanced search page.  Only displays the address collapsed box and when click on the address does not expand.  At this point I think we have looked at 4 PCs running I.E. 6 and all of them have an issue on the advanced search page not displaying the collapse rows.

Is the advanced search page collapsed rows working for anyone with I.E. 6 and running under Drupal ?

Update from another user with I.E. 6 - same issue displaying collapsed boxes Address and other. - that makes 5 out of 5 reporting the issue with I.E. 6.  So far only tested one on the demo, but same issue there.

Anyone not have the issue with I.E. 6 and Drupal on the Advanced search page.

Looks like the same issue with CiviCRM V2, I.E. 6 and Advanced Search Page:
Test I.E. 6 here: http://sandbox.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/search/advanced?reset=1
