Using Profile to Create Newsletter Sign Up
May 10, 2011, 09:16:43 am
Hi all,

I am new to CiviCRM and having some trouble with it. I am confused as to whether or not CiviCRM Profiles can be used to allow Newsletter sign ups. I have created a profile with the required fields, and have them all set to public.  I have created a link to them in Joomla, however it looks like the user needs to be signed into Joomla in order to view it. When not logged in I just get a error message.

Am I going wrong somewhere or is this not possible. Surely you can utilize forms publicly without having to get somebody to register?

Thanks,
Austin.

I'm having the exact same problem. I think profiles should be able to add contacts to a group (mailing list), but the only option I see to achieve this, is to use the Groups field. However the format of this field is not to my liking. A drupal user should be able to subscribe by checking a checkbox when editing its profile.

You can also modify the profile (under advanced) and choose in which group to add the contacts added with the profile if it's only about one group.

If it's only a matter of layout, you can create a custom template for that profile.

But the problem is the contact should only be added to the group (mailing list) if the checkbox is checked. Is there any way to achieve this?
