There is a related piece of functionality that allows street addresses to be parsed into separate fields for street number and the rest of the street information (street name, street type, etc.). This works for street addresses that conform to US civic addresses, but doesn't support other address styles well, eg rural addresses. I wrote a bit of code to handle Canadian French civic addresses:
1A, rue Ste Catherine O instead of 1A St Catherine St W. I think someone has done one other address format for that. This is only important if you want to have a Walk List report that sorts nicely.

If you are interested in pursuing this in terms of funding development, it might be good to coordinate with me as I have Canadian clients who would like this but can't fund all of the required development, and I imagine there would be substantial overlap.
