This seems straightforward- but I just can't seem to figure out a good way to do it:

I want to construct a search which pulls up all of the contacts which have a relationship to other contacts, which are all in a certain group. For example:

"Show all the Parents of Students who are in this certain group".  So the parents are not in the group, but their students are.

I have tried the following: 1) using the advanced search; but with this, one only gets to search on the basis of relationship type to a certain individual, (or everybody).

I tried to add a field to a profile which shows a relationship. (i.e.- select for all the children in the group, then show everyone for who relationship = parent for this group) ... no luck.

I also tried the search builder, but this also wasn't able to filter like this. (As an aside: In fact, if I chose (Contact Type of subtype )  --> Parent of ... (operator) [name of contact] , then it appears to return ALL contacts, no matter if they are parents of not, no matter what the operator or operand. - but that's a different issue)

This seems like there would be an easy, simple way to do this, any ideas?

Yes, thanks, using version 3.4 works great. "Display results as... related contacts" - and then choosing the relationship type worked great.

I would like to contribute to the MIH tools, but I will need to finda nother way of giving back to the civicrm community than financial- though I will point out to all my clients using civicrm.
