CiviCRM and Zimbra
January 14, 2008, 03:19:07 pm
My small organization currently uses Drupal 5.2 as a CMS and like it.  I'm considering starting to use CiviCRM to handle about 4,000 professional contacts.  However, I'm also starting to use Zimbra for individual email messages as well as calendars and tasks.  I'm a user/manager, not a techie.

Is it convenient and workable for a tech person to set up CiviCRM to feed Zimbra as a Global Address List for individual email messages?  If so, would this be through LDAP or how?  I'd like to be able in Zimbra to quickly look up a name and send that person an email message in Zimbra.  (I would still send blast emails from CiviCRM.)  Both applications would be hosted by my local integrator.

If there's a much better application to use with CiviCRM (Horde?), I might consider that, but I like Zimbra.  I need something that works reliably now, not in 6 months.

Thanks,
Raf

I don't know anything about Zimbra - but some folks have had success using LDAP to integrate with other email clients:

I haven't installed Zimbra yet myself, but I have been looking at it. You might want to check out the Zimlets they have. I know that they have ones that will capture info(such as an address or phone #) in an email and  feed it to an external application (I've seen one for salesforce that could probably be modified to CiviCRM) Also Zimbra uses standard components so code should be able to be written to move info in both directions.
