Create contact definable relationships or groups on event signup forms?
May 17, 2011, 04:43:07 pm
Hello

I have an event configured for a marathon.  We need for those who sign up to have the option to create groups or relationships and pay certain amounts based on the type of group, below is the synopsis.  This is a Drupal 6 site, just fyi, but I dont intend for those signing up to create drupal accounts, but I am certainly open to using Drupal in some way if it gets the job done. I am looking over the event docs right now, but nothing is popping out at me yet, so:

1) Pledge money to a charity of choice-  A runner should be able to specify a charity of his/her choice.  This charity could be anything, thus he/she will physically type in their charity  (ie the runner would not select a charity from a prepopulated list).  Furthermore, the runner should be able to specify a US dollar amount that they would like to donate to this charity, and that amount should get added to the event registration fee.  Finally, i would like for the charity created to be related to the runner.

For creating the charity and relating it to the runner, i have added a custom "contacts" field to the Name and Address profile, however it doesnt create a relationship (I tried using an organization field but the error said i could not use org in combination with individual fields).  And I am clueless how to add the pledge amount. Would civi pledge be something to look at here?

2) Create a team with up to 4 runners who will pay a flat group rate.  A team captain should be able to specify a team name (which of course creates a relationship or group) and then register up to 4 runners for this team.  A team would have a special lump sum price, no matter the number of runners in the team.

I see how to limit the # of people one person can register.  The problem Im running into though is the same as above, cant figure out how to create relationships or group with my custom data.  For creating the price, Im thinking just add team as a selection to the price set which will work fine, however I dont see any way to disallow selecting an individual runner's fee if a team has been created.  IE, if registering 2 or more people as a team, we dont want them to be able to select the fee that a single person would pay, as the team fee is of course a larger dollar amount.  Finally, hopefully I can use the solution from #1 to allow each team member to specify a charity and pledge amount.

Hopefully this makes sense, any advice, suggestions or etc are greatly welcomed,

thanks!!

Also, how can I limit the number of "multiple" participants that one person can register.  Currently it allows 10, how can change this to 4?
