Include case id in find case search
May 20, 2011, 03:36:34 pm
Hello,

When searching for cases (using Find Cases) I'd like to be able to search by case id. I'm guessing I need to modify common.tpl (templates/CRM/Case/Form/Search), but am a bit lost.

Anyone have suggestions for how to do this?

Thanks!

The full-text search will automatically treat numbers as case id's. The custom search and/or the block may not be enabled by default though.

Thank-you so much for the response, but I'm still confused. Which custom search and/or block needs to be enabled (and how)?

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious here...trying to get myself into some CiviCRM training at some point.

I can get my users to use the full-text search for now, but it would make sense that when they are going to 'Find Cases' (which is what I'm encouraging them to do), they can search by Case ID - the primary field we're using to track funding applications.

I'm resurrecting this thread too...  :-[

We would also like to be able to search by Case ID.  It can be done in the Search Builder, but not Advanced Search or Find Cases?

I also don't understand the comment by the OP that something needs to be enabled?

maybe you can add this functionality request (and  3-5 hours for it) to the case improvements you are discussing with pmoz

Full text search is included with civi by default, but the block (drupal) isn't enabled by default. You can enable it in admin/build/block, e.g. put it in the left sidebar. Then when you do a full text search from the sidebar and enter a number if will look for that case id.
