For some reason, we end up with a lot of pending transactions for membership sign up and events -- I am not sure if it is cold feet but if the users get to a certain stage of the transaction and then abandon it leaving  a pending transaction (we are using PayFlowLink)

I noted that CiviEvent has an optional time period where pending transactions are deleted.  Would it be possible (maybe it is already and I missed it) to have the same functionality with CiviContribute for memberships/contributions with an email telling the user that the transaction is still listed as pending and will be deleted after so many days?  (we do not use pay later, so perhpas there needs to be a different status to differientiate the two)

This is currently not in the code base, but will be a good addition. This potentially also fits in the "automated" reminder system that we are building for certain use cases, check:

specifically dev task 3, 4 and 5

would be nice to be able to "schedule" a reminder which sends an email when a pending from online payments has not been completed in X days. Currently we should delete / cancel that payment and urge the user to redo the payment.

Note that we will only be building the activity workflow. However we hope that over time other folks will contribute other aspects, so in a few weeks would be good to jump in and attempt to use that model for this task (which ensures it will be generic etc)
