I have a customization for a potential client non-profit that does a lot of organ-donation data. All of the existing functionality for CiviContribute will work for their organ donation requirements, however they'd like this "Organ Donor" data to have its own permissions and its own "Organ Donor" tab in a contact record.

Is this possible to do this with the a clone of CiviContribute? If so does anyone have a rough estimate on the time taken to clone CiviContribute into "CiviDonor"?

Or is it simpler than that, and there is another way I am not thinking of?

I've decided to use Custom Data in civicrm with the "Tab" display on a per-contact basis. Then using ACLs I will manage who can see and edit this data. It seems easier than copying and modifying CiviContribute.
