Unable to install 4.0.0 Joomla 1.6

Hello,

I am trying to install CiviCRM in Joomla 1.6

PHP/5.3.5

mysqlnd 5.0.7

From the extensions manager >> install >> upload package I browse for the file, and click Upload and install; the file appears to be uploading. After a few seconds the file disappears from the upload file field and I inside the field I get the regular text "No file chosen"

I tried installing with the hosting company I use, as well as in the latest XAMPP environment and I am getting the same results.

Could anyone please give me some pointers?
