county dropdownbox does not work

Hi
when i edit the address of contacts, the county dropdown box does not display with the state selection correspondingly.

it has only 5 county information?

Is there anybody knows the reason?

CiviCRM doesn't come pre-loaded with all the counties (for US or any other country). Also, the County selection options are NOT limited by selected State / Province (as we have done with the Country > State/Province fields. That said, if you're only collecting addresses within one (or a few) states - you can probably make use of the feature.

A sql script to load all US counties to the civicrm_county table was developed by seedsofblue.com and is available here. I can not attest to it's accuracy etc. - but it's probably a decent start:

Hi Dave,

Can this list be customised for other countries? I can only see 5 counties from US. But we are trying to use it in Ireland only. It is picking up state information when we select Ireland as country.

yes, that list can be customized to other countries. You need to get the data for Ireland and then format it for the civicrm mysql table. you might want to use the US county list as an example (see link above). If you get the data from a public source, please publish your sql file so other folks from Ireland can use it in the future.

We've added  counties in the data file as a simple way of letting folks know about that field and table
