Customized greeting and addressee info disappears

Hi,

I have a problem with data disappearing from some addressee and greeting fields that contain customized text. I can save individual contact records with customized addressee or greeting text, but randomly (it seems) that information will be missing at some later date. It is happening for only some records that have customized addressees and greetings (not all them), and it's not always the same contacts, and different fields disappear on different records -- sometimes the email greeting, sometimes postal greeting, sometimes addressee, sometimes combos of the three.

These are active contacts for whom we are recording activities, updating relationships, recording contributions (both online and offline), etc.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

I have had this problem in the past and it was related to a profile update.  If you have the field on a profile and it is left blank it will remove the custom information you entered.  Can happen on contributions or registrations, especially if the person is not logged in.

After much troubleshooting, I discovered this was a problem with having changed the template formats for addressee and greeting data after there was already data in the fields. The existing addressee and greeting data was only cached, so when the record was edited, it disappeared.

I ended up exporting all the addressee and greeting data and re-importing it again, so it would be stored as "hard" data rather than cached.
