Virtual events, time zone information for event date/time

We have some organizations using CiviEvent to run online webinars and other virtual events. This works well, except for 1 small thing:

 - There is no built in way to specify the time zone that the event date relates to.  The current work-around is to include the event time zone in the event description. Seems like the default time zone could be set in the global settings with the ability to override for a specific event.

Looks like this has been sitting for quite some time now. Is anyone aware of a solution?

No progress on this as yet. Would be good to add full fledged TZ support to CiviCRM, there are a couple of patches out there which demonstrate it for CiviMail:

maybe you can build on that for civievent
