Unable to import into a custom field
June 02, 2011, 08:26:02 am
Using CiviCRM 3.4.2, there is a custom group, which contains a number of custom fields. One of these fields has been disabled, and re-enabled. When importing, and choosing to which field to map data, this particular field has stopped showing up.

The field is definitely enabled. I have compared the row in the database table civicrm_custom_fields and I can find no difference between the field that does not appear in the mapping, and the other fields, which all appear as normal.

I have done some searching around, but I cannot seem to find anyone else with this problem. Does anyone know how I should be going about finding the cause of this issue?

Wow, editing the field and saving it worked. Thanks very much for the suggestion.

Any idea what, in terms of the database and code and everything, might have caused that, so we can avoid it in future?

so just to confirm:

1. The field disappears when disabled

2. The field does not reappear when enabled

right? can u please file an issue and link to this forum post

this is a caching issue, and seems like the cache is not cleared when fields are enabled

lobo - not sure if this got sorted - hitting a similar issue on 3.2.5 - not sure what is causing it, ie disabling/renabling or what - am still asking questions of the client - but same outcome
data fields do not show in the import dropdown until i open the Data Group Settings and resave - then they show up.
shall i lodge an Issue anyhow?

UPDATE - client thinks they may have Disabled in a different Custom Data Group but not in this one - so not sure if that still tallies with the above, but yes it does seem like there was a caching issue back in the days of 3.2.5
