Trouble Installing CiviCRM on Joomla 1.6

I've unzipped the com_civicrm folder into the tmp folder, gone to Extension manager, set the install directory and clicked "Install" under "Install from Directory". The page spins forever and nothing happens until it times out. From what I can tell no files are written anywhere else in the filesystem (I've checked components, admin/components and media). All of those folders are writeable. I've tried installing 3.4.2, 4.0.0 and 4.0.0-alt. I've added these values to my htaccess:

php_value memory_limit 64M
php_value register_globals off
php_value max_execution_time 6000


Does anyone have any thoughts as to what's going on?

CiviCRM is recommended to be run with 128 M RAM actually:

So that might be the issue. Also, confirm via phpinfo() that your .htaccess settings are taking effect. If they're on shared hosting, they may not.

Aside from that, it's hard to say--can you check your error logs?

I changed htaccess memory limit to 128

I checked phpinfo(), max execution time and memory limit are at 6000/128

The error log is empty

Still not able to install.

I had trouble getting the install to run. I suggest that you install direct from URL instead:

On Joomla Menu Select: Extensions> Install/Uninstall

Install from URL:

"h t t p : / / sourceforge.net/projects/civicrm/files/civicrm-stable/4.0.2/civicrm-4.0.2-joomla.zip"

(remove unecessary spaces!)

Click Install and wait a while!

Should work a treat...
