Columns not recognized during import
June 06, 2011, 09:02:57 am
Hello,

I'm trying to import contacts into CiviCRM 2.2.5. As instructed i created a csv file but the headings are not getting recognized as separate columns, ie. In the column names all headers get listed as one column, same for the import data, so i'm not able to map my data properly.

I've tried creating the csv file with excel 2007 and open office calc and get same results. i've tried uploading just a text file. But nothing is working. Can someone help pls?

Hello mj,

I can't be certain without seeing your CSV file, but here's a couple of things to keep in mind when Importing.

1. the first Row (horizontal) doesn't necessarily HAVE to contain your column headers, but it does make the import process a lot easier. If your first row doesn't contain these headers, consider inserting a new first row and Adding the headers.

2. You'll want to make sure that your headers match the CiviCRM field names that you are trying to fill (First name, Last name, etc). If you only have 1 field for name, First and last names won't be separated when imported.

I hope this helps, the import feature is really nice to have, but it can be kind of finicky when it comes to formatting.

Cheers'
Jason
