CiviSMTP Setup
June 09, 2011, 09:54:42 am
Really struggling to get this setup. I am getting the following errors:

Civimail User Check : could not authenticate because: Invalid login
SMTP Authorization Check : SMTP Authorization Succeeded! This proves that the SMTP server is up and that the SMTP Authorization is working with the SMTP username and SMTP password you have entered.
Email Domain Check : No MX records found for http://]submainname].ca (I took out the subdomain name)
SMTP Account settings updated for http://[subdomainname].ca

I am not a domain name expert. It turns out that our primary domain is a child domain of another domain and we have set up our Civi environment as a subdomain of that child domain. I can't figure out working with the Registrar - Alentus (who provide no online tool to edit the MX records) what exactly I need to do to move forward.

We have an production environment all ready to go, did our user testing and thought this part would be easy. We are supposed to go live this Monday and this is now our Achilles heal. Any help out there?

Hi!

"Civimail User Check : could not authenticate because: Invalid login"

for this you need to setup a civicrm user in your installation and enter the username and pass for that user

"Email Domain Check : No MX records found for http://]submainname].ca (I took out the subdomain name)"

it could be that the domain information has not propagated yet.  it can take up to 72 hours for changes to take effect.  please email civismtp@uas.coop with the domain names you have setup so we can check them.

peace,

-Shane

HI Shane,

I have sent you an email with the domain information. Perhaps you are correct and it has not propagated as yet.

I followed your instructions for setting up a login ID with CiviCRM access. It works fine for me to use it directly to login. Perhaps I have set up something else incorrectly.

HI Shane,

You were correct...it took some time to propagate..I just got the message:

Email Domain Check : The MX records for civi-prod.dev.arhca.ab.ca are correctly configured

Now if I could sort out the issue with the login. I included some information about the login and my account in the email I sent to civismtp@uas.coop. As I said in my email, I can log into the system just fine with the user I set up.
