Changing membership types - business to individual

I have a member who originally signed up under his business last year. Now we need him to renew as an individual. Is there a way to do this without building another record? We'd like to see his membership as continuous despite the change in his membership "status". Please advise.

try a search for 'membership upsell' = there has been some work to achieve what you want, not sure which version it came out for

Thanks for the idea. Can't find anything regarding membership upsell. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

googling civicrm membership upsell - eg - http://civicrm.org/blogs/stoob/making-most-new-membership-upsell
however not sure how well that covers it if your Individual is inheriting a Membership by dint of a relationship to the Business which 'owns' the Membership
But when you say 'build another record' i get confused as I am not sure if you are talking about 'membership record' or 'contact record'
so sorry if i am not being v helpful (yet)

I truly appreciate the help. I mean another membership record - I'd just like to see it as one continuous record rather than opening a new membership record.  I'll read over the link and see if I can use the info. Thanks!
