Civimail User Check : could not authenticate because: Invalid login
June 13, 2011, 05:53:36 pm
Hi! I'm setting up CiviSMTP with my new CiviCRM installation and when I try testing my account settings everything works except this:

Civimail User Check : could not authenticate because: Invalid login

I'm running Drupal 7.2 and CiviCRM 4.0.2.

My "Username of the CiviMail Soap User" and "Password for the CiviMail Soap User" is a valid Drupal user. I have tried changing its password and using different existing users to no avail, but I can manually login myself so I know that's correct. That user has permissions to "access CiviCRM" -- though I also tried giving it permissions to manage all of Drupal, and it didn't work. In CiviCRM, I also found that contact and added it to the Administrators group, which isn't mentioned in the "SMTP Account Setup How-To" but I figured I'd give it a try because it says the user needs "permissions to affect group membership".

My "Soap Proxy URL" is also valid, and when I look at the access logs it's getting POSTed to by CiviSMTP's server and returning status code 500. But it's not generating any error messages.

None of this is working and it's all saying returning with the error "could not authenticate because: Invalid login". Any idea what could be wrong?
