Easy way to update Individual Contacts
June 15, 2011, 07:01:33 am
Hi Everyone,

Please bear with this question from a new user.  I have successfully imported records from our clubs access database to CIVICRM.  I had created a custom field for the profiles and now need to go into each record and update this custom field.  Other than searching, selecting a contact, editing the record, then searching again, selecting a contact, editing the record, and repeating over and over, is there an easier way to update these fields?  The fields are Checkboxes and the choices can vary per each record.  Is there a way to move from one record to the next as you can in an access database?

Thanks in advance for your help?

Danny

hi danny,
if you have a way to search for these contacts, you can create a profile and then do a "batch update via profile". The basic procedure would be this:

1. create a profile with the custom field(s) you need to update
2. do a search, find contacts such that only the contacts that you want to update are presented in the result set
3. put a dot in the circle for "all x-number contacts"
4. select batch update via profile from the "actions" drop-down menu

hope this helps,
cynthia
