blank organisations created when contacts updated

When I am using the update function when I import data I have a problem in that I create blank organisation fields unless I separate my data first ointo those who are employees of an organisation and those that are not. An employee relationship to this blank organisation is also created. I have checked there is no white space int he organisation field.

Has anyone else come across this?

Pete used to moan about this - then he came up with having a default in the contacts with empty orgs - all the relationships are formed against 1 contact & then he just deletes the contact

So I just create an organisation e.g. Caroline Warehouse Ltd and put that into the data I am uploading or do you mean making Caroline Warehouse Ltd the defauly value for organisations in civi?

I think Pete puts it into the field wherever it's blank - I haven't tried it myself
