Click on "new organization".

The idea here is that one of the organizations in your list of CRM entities (individuals, organizations and households) will be the memebrship org.

I populated the install with the test data.  There is a organization already there "Inner City Art".  I added my organization but it does not show up in my drop-down.  I cannot seem to find how/where to find this "Inner City Art" entry.

Where is that edited?

you might wan to first check is it added in db ? ( with the help of search ) .  Also check twice your membership type record is it correct ?
go to Administer CiviCRM ->  Membership Types -> click "Edit" for your membership type record and check "Membership Organization" associated with this record.

Also if you check other membership types you will find how "inner City Art" associated with membership type.
As you populated the install with test data, there are some test membership types and "Inner City Art" is associated with them.

you might want to read more about Membership types configuration.

I was struggling with this but finally by trial & error worked it out.

To add a Membership Organisation & Type You need to:

1. Go to  Contacts, New Organization and add you own organisation as if it is a contact or member
2. Go to Administer, CiviMember, Membership Types and select adding a new one.
3. Full in Membership Type details and the tricky part is filling in 'Membership Organization'. You need to enter in your organisation name first and then click 'Search' second. Now the association to your own organisation has been made.
