I've posted over in CiviContribute forum that I can't SEEM to import contributions because of the apparent absolute requirement that the external data source needs to know the CiviCRM Contact ID.  I actually don't know how that's the case at ANY site, and am amazed that I don't see people posting more questions about how to import using only Email and External Identifier to match to Contact.

SO, While trying to import Participants, I have the SAME issue with the Contact ID, PLUS the import seems to want to match using the CiviCRM Event ID.  This may be a smaller issue if we only import one event at a time because we can probably just use an Excel FILL function to add the CiviCRM Event ID in just a few minutes.  But it would be better if we could control the fields that are used for matching, in general.

Is there a way to chance import Contact matching requirements and Event matching requirements?
