ACL for adding offline contacts / membership
June 23, 2011, 06:17:06 am
Hi everyone

I am new to using CiviCRM. I am developing a new installation using v4.0.3 in Joomla 1.6

Initially most of our contact and new/renewed membership information will be supplied off-line. I have been looking around the forums and documentation to see how i can give support staff who will administer the data updates access to search/view/add contacts and search/view/add/renew memberships through the front end of Joomla. Obviously i will not be giving them administrator access.

I have set up each support staff member as a contact and i have set up a group for managing contacts and membership and made the staff contact records members of that group. I think i may need to set up something in profiles but i cant quite see how this will work.

Is there anyone out there who can give me a nudge in the right direction (if only to a good tutorial that i can work through).

Next task will be working out the import process. It looks pretty str8 forward - the data manipulation/cleansing from our old "dodgy" database will be the fun bit  ;D

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

would it be easier to give all your staff access to view/edit all contacts?

hi Donald et al

i think that is what i am looking for.

I am trying to give them front end access. I have now set up a "Contribute Page"Joomla menu item and within "Manage Contributions" I have created a Membership entity and used this to configure the menu item. Since the support staff are the only people who have access to the computer i can leave the menu item as being publicly accessed.

If i go to the front page i can see the menu item but when i click on it i get "Error: CiviCRM-001". Any ideas on what to look for to resolve this?

thanks
Dave

as admin can u enable debug and backtrace for civicrm and revisit the url.

will give u a more detailed backtrace of where the error occurred which might give you some more clues
