Creating name labels outside of CiviEvent
June 29, 2011, 03:56:38 pm
I need to create name labels for various groups of people who may be in a particular group, or are generated by a search.  These people are not attending an event as such and I am not using CiviEvent.  At present the name label function only seems to be possible within CiviEvent.

At present, within the main Civi functions, you can only define one mailing label when you customise global address settings and we use this, as intended, for a standard postal mailing label.  Is there a way of adding another mailing label setting so that I can make this purely first name/last name and use it for name labels?

Currently no. All setting can only be defined globally.

Hi,

Out of curiosity, what's your use case?

So far, the only option is to create a "fake" event and add your group/search result to it. it doesn't have to be public.

Thanks - I'll take the 'fake event' route for now!

Xavier - we're a UK church and want to create the labels for people attending our newcomers' event... but we draw from various groups and searches for that rather than having it set up formally as an event which people register for.  We do also use CiviEvent properly but the issue I mentioned is just one of our (many!) anomalies that we're working around.
