Interns working on civicrm
June 30, 2011, 01:45:44 am
Hey there,

We are 3.5 fte at Third Sector Design now and think we want to experiment with taking on interns as a way to contribute to the CiviCRM community.

It seems to us that the CiviCRM community is a great place for interns to get valuable experience. The general idea is to get the intern to do all those things you wish you could do but don't have the time to do (rather than all those things that you know you have to do, but don't want to do!).

There is always a long wish list of functionality and bugs that need to be worked on, so we are presuming that the intern will be able to find reasonably exciting / interesting that they want to do, which we hope will make for contented interns.  And because the work is open source and the fruits of their labour are public, they will have a decent record of the work they have done at the end of the internship (for showing off to future employers/contracts/work etc.).

As an organisation with experience working with CiviCRM we think we are in a good position to support and guide interns doing this, i.e. to help them find a way into the CiviCRM community and also give them exposure to the realities of client work as well.  It also provides a possible route to employment.

Am interested to know what people think of this and if they have any ideas/experiences that would be useful here.

Michael
