HELP - Finding what's gone wrong with links on Relationship and Membership TAB
July 01, 2011, 08:43:28 pm
Hi...  am in big need of help and friendly advice!

At some point in the not too distant past our Org's instance of CiviCRM started to show an odd behaviour.

The problem is, that when you look at an individual's record... then click on Relationship TAB then click any of the options View/Edit/Renew/Delete you are taken to the new style My Dashboard (activity) screen!  :-(
Despite the fact that the URL in the browser seems to be saying View the Relationship record...
URL = /civicrm/contact/rel?action=view&reset=1&cid=21737&id=3847&rtype=b_a&selectedChild=rel

Similarly, if you look at an individual's record and then click on the Membership TAB, clicking the link options there take you to the Dashboard screen.  :-(
URL = /civicrm/contact/membership?action=view&reset=1&cid=21737&id=10038&context=membership&selectedChild=member

However, if I go to the Memberships (menu) and use the Membership Dashboard or Find Memberships menu and click the  links through those screens I can successfully View/Edit/Delete membership information as expected!
URL = /civicrm/contact/view/membership?reset=1&id=10038&cid=21737&action=view&context=search&selectedChild=member&compContext=membership&key=ce5blahblahverylongkeyhere_1943

If only there was a work around option for Relationships to give our staff a way of updating the data   ;-)

Why is it so?!  And what can I do to help myself troubleshoot what is going on?  :-)

So far I've tried:

1. update to latest civicrm 3.4.3 from 3.2.5 - (ok, now 3.4.4 is out... so not quite the latest!)
2. turning on debugging and seeing what is displayed on screen if I do the two methods...  nothing comes up on screen.  I'll go read-the-lovely-manual now and see if there is a debug file where errors might be logged...
3. used several different accounts with correct permissions, including super admin.

I will try to go back to an old old backup on a test box and see if I can get close to the time before things started going crazy...  I'm guess though a bit of data has been added since the problem was made known to me  :-(

Suggestions greatly appreciated.

My guess would be to:

1. check your civicrm.settings.php file and make sure your base URL is consistent with the URL for your site  (www. vs no-www. matters!)
2. Clear your templates_c cache

If not, please provide more information about your hosting environment and version of Drupal (or Joomla).

Try CiviTeacher: the online video tutorial CiviCRM learning library.

Hi Stoob, thanks for your reply.

I've now tried clearing the templates_c cache...
and I've double checked the based URL in civicrm.settings.php and that is fine and matches up with the site...
I would expect that is the base URL setting was wrong then the entire site would be playing up?

Still got the problem.  :-(

The problem is specific to the relationship / membership section of the individual contact area...

We are using Civicrm 3.4.3   Drupal 6.20 at the moment. PHP 5.2.10  MySQL 5.1.51  Apache/2.2.3   full control over the box, hosted VM environment.

This is a weird problem and hampers things for our admin staff trying to update records.
