Deceased Contacts
July 04, 2011, 01:40:43 am
Can any one suggest how to avoid the following scenario,  which sadly just happened to me.  We have a list of contacts with various interests etc,  and I place people into groups.  One such group contains members who made a commitment to pay a lump sum. We wanted to write to this group to see if they would like to renew this commitment,  so  I just did a search for members who are part of the group,  exported the list,  sent letters,  and discovered that one of the members is deceased (his widow returned the letter),  and is marked as deceased in the CRM.

Could someone clarify what happens to automatic renewals,  newsletter subscriptions etc etc when someone is marked deceased?

I do not know, but I would hope they would NOT be selected......but judging by your example that does not happen! Have you checked this on the demo site? If so, you can raise an issue on the Issue Tracker (or I'd be happy to do that for you).

Export exports whatever you choose. If you don't put as a filter that you don't want the deceased or do not mail, they will be exported.

On the other hand, civimail doesn't send email to opt out contacts (or on hold) and nearly sure it doesn't sent do deceased either. You don't have to explicitly exclude them, it's by default
