demo requirements
July 04, 2011, 02:13:14 am
hello, i intend to use CiviCRM 4.0 with Drupal 7 but it seems to be incredibly slow compared to the demo which is, well, perfect for me.
So can someone tell me what are the demo server requirements ( in term of hardware, but maybe apache, mysql or php conf)  for me to get something as fast as the demo ?

Thank you !

mcarson

The setup of Apache, MySQL and PHP is not included in the docs due to the many, many different installation configurations that can be used.

No promises; I am assuming that you have access to 'everything'
What version of Apache, MySQL and PHP are you running?
Are you running Plesk? What version?
Are you on a dedicated server, or a VPS? (or hosted)
If Plesk, and vhosts, are you using FastCGI?

There are SO many variables that impact performance. I wish that when I was setting up my own CiviCRM installation that there was 'a' resource for this, but as it turned out; I manually configured everything, tuning it as required. Any direct advice I followed on server config sometimes caused more problems than I had to start with.

The basic requirements are here: http://civicrm.org/aboutcivicrm in the Technical Requirements section.

Regarding server configuration, as mcarson says, this depends on a myriad of factors, and the only real solution is an experienced and knowledgeable sysadmin who can set things up correctly.
