Price Sets for Memberships

do price sets for membership types permit a single membership type to be updated for various periods,?  ie a single membership purchased online may be for 1 month, or 2 months, depending on the individual?

There is no price set support for membership. You can only add price set for events and contribution.

Price sets for memberships have been sponsored & will be in a release in the near future.

However, there is no plan at this stage to support different membership durations through them (price sets do allow time specific pricing so they will help towards this).

There is still scope to discuss the requirement a little but I expect that the requirement you mention would require additional sponsorship

the current limitation means that each of these durations of same membership type must be processed as separate memberships, which pretty much makes the status "expired," for example, irrelevant -  since you are seeing expired memberships in the advanced search when they may have renewed a separate membership (of different length of time). A member in their contact dashboard also sees many memberships, which may be confusing to them.
