How change are reflected?
July 06, 2011, 03:56:51 am
Hi, I am really new to CiviCRM.  :)
I started working for an NPO as a volanteer just a few weeks ago.

As I wanted to add question for new registrating organizations.
I created a custom data field and added it on a existing profile.

But I am not sure when the change happens on the actual web site.

Do I need to reboot CiviCRM?

Stupid question, thanks in advance.

hi marruke - if you add a new field to a profile and the profile is being used as part of a Event or Donation page, or just as a standalone profile then the change would show immediately.
only case where this might not happen i think is if there is a block/page generated with the profiles 'html snippet' - as is sometimes used to get the form on to other sites etc - in which case you may need to re-grab the snippet (under 'more' on the list of profiles page) and update the code where the block is generated.

Hi, petedns.
I see. " the change would show immediately". Then,
something may be wrong with my operation, or it might be happened as you indicated. It is a big progress to me! Appreciation.

Sorry for late reply.

I think that questionary is on "resgiter new organization" and, I think, it is just a civiCRM profile.
The problem is the system team resides abroad and I am not quite well understand what is inside the site.  ::)

When I click preview it shows some error, so I guess there may be already some trouble about data design and CiviCRM stopped reflecting change anyway. I am afraid the situation is not clear and so it is so early to get into detail.

It it is solved, I will report what was wrong.

I've done some tests at "http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/".

test1:
1. Create new option data
2. Create new profile (and set as "use for registration")
result:
new question is applied in "new account (registration page)"

test2:
1. Create new option data
2. Add to existing profile (which is already used for registration)
result:
no change is applyed

test3:
1. disable profile that is created in test1.
result:
no change is applyed (still there is question)

# But at my test site, test1 do not pass. It seems there is still other problem...

Yeah now I understand Petednz's idea! As he points out, the site possibly is using snippet. I will check.
BTW, what is happening in the above test?

where on Demo is the custom data field and profile you are referring to in the above in terms of adding new 'options' and not having them show

Hi petednz, Thank you for your assistance.

Do you mean the demo is not designed to show them?

*I found similar FAQ and the issue looks same as mine. (but the answer seems do not fit)
<http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Custom+Data+Not+on+New+User+Form>

I will catch up with development team of my site and will ask what they are doing for registration form.
I hope the result may help someone new.

I assumed you meant - you had some fields - you put them in the profile - you went back to the fields to add more options and those options didn't show in the Profile

If so, please link to the custom data that has the options that are not showing on Demo
