Help with Smart Groups
July 06, 2011, 05:59:08 am
Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum. I'm new to CiviCRM but this is a truly awesome component. Many thanks to the developers.

I have a question regarding Smart Groups: I want to create a group of individuals who are employees of companies based in a particular location. I can create a smart group that selects the companies, but how can I return the employees of those companies?

Very many thanks for your help!

Regards

Garford.

hi garford,
I think you will need to upgrade to 3.4.4 to accomplish this. it has a new advanced search feature that was designed to do the very thing you mention. you can do an advanced search for all organizations in a specific location with a relationship type of e.g. "employer of" and then, up at the type right-hand corner of the screen, there is a box that says "display results as". underneath that there is a drop-down menu box where you can choose e.g "employee of". this will display the result set as individuals, which i think is what you want.

having said the above i realize you are using joomla and i'm not sure if that feature is available with that cms (we use drupal)

hope this was somewhat helpful,
cynthia

Hi Cynthia,

Thank you very much for your reply. That has worked! I've spotted a small issue, though.

When I select "Related Contacts" from the Display Results As box, the secondary menu doesn't display until I've run the search, then hit edit. Magically, I then get presented with the box that allows me to select "employee of".

Your help has been fantastic! Thanks again!

Garford
