Exporting Data with Company Name Field
January 22, 2008, 12:59:12 pm
Hello!

Using CiviCRM, particularly CiviEvent.  At this time one of the fields for our event registration form is "Company Name."

We like to export/search data including the "Company Name" field but have no idea how to do this.  It's possible for every other custom/stock data field.

I realize now that Company Name is tied to a relationship (employee of - I didn't realize this when I used the field for the registration form).

The relationship functionality is really powerful -- and I'd rather not circumvent -- just need to figure out how to get that data into the export similar to the address or name field.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jen

On import, you have the option of selecting a related field via the mapping interface. There is a little section for mapping related fields. Unfortunately this is not available for the export functionality.

If you connect external reporting software to your database you could get that information via Crystal or BRIT (see docs).

I usually tackle this problem by creating two excel sheets with the information you want and then use a little excel magic to match the data. However I can't find any way to generate a download of relationships (a simple Contact ID <-> Contact ID <-> Relationship Type sheet would solve the problem).

I'll let others weigh in before we conclude your use case can only be handled by CiviReport (i.e. BRIT).

Just chipping in - the inability to export fields such as Relationships is a problem for us. Yes we are trying to set up CiviReport - but that will, i suspect, stop the general user from pulling out such data until one of the techies has constructed the Report for them.

The case for us is that we have numerous 'officeholders' at each level of our multi-level organisation.

Producing a list for each 'branch' showing who they have in each position would be very helpful - but of course, while we can generate a list of the people, and export it, it doesn't allow us to list what 'role' each of them has.

This would be a great use case for the custom search feature that we introduced in 2.0. I'll try to convince Chris to write some code to implement this :)

You can export contacts from custom search also data u specify :)
