authorize.net recurring gifts API

Hi - I need help IDing the API at Authorize.net that will work with civi to set up recurring gifts. I've upgraded to the most recent civi version. Drupal install. - I tried the api in the authorize documentation by cutting and pasting but that was wishful thinking.

the error I get is : "malformed"

As of 3.4, Authorize recurring gifts should be as easy as copying and pasting the Authorize keys and urls into CiviCRM.  Malformed makes me think of a SSL or configuration error, that is being rejected by Authorize.  More error information would be helpful.
